In America, the early performing arts accomplishments of young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely have put her in the child prodigy category. This was a natural trait for an Irish-born child surrounded by gifted parents as well as a loving and supportive family. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin - Ireland on 17 August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons' mom, Lilburn, was an contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based firm and also owned a stake of "The Shamrock Rovers" a renowned Irish soccer squad. Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen loved playing rough sports when she was an infant and was extremely good in them. Her naturally-born interest with her ability in performing was astonishing. As a result, she won the majority of the Feis Awards for her dramatic and acting performances in her country of birth. At age 14she was accepted into the Abbey Theater, where her dream was to pursue operatic singing as well as classical theater.
